Quick answer

  1. Open now.hdfc.bank.in/retail-app/ (the "Login" and "Register For Net Banking" links on hdfc.bank.in go there). The page is headed "Welcome to NetBanking".
  2. Stay on the "Personal Banking" tab and choose Register Now next to "Not registered for NetBanking?".
  3. On "Register for NetBanking", enter your Customer ID and the Security Code shown on screen.
  4. Verify yourself as the screen asks, and set your password.
  5. Log in with your Customer ID and the new password.

Before you send money to anyone else, you also have to complete a one-time third party transfer (TPT) registration inside NetBanking. Transfers to a payee start only 24 hours after that.

HDFC Bank's website has moved from hdfcbank.com to hdfc.bank.in. The bank calls the present version the "All-New NetBanking".

Who can apply

HDFC Bank's FAQ says anyone having an HDFC Bank savings or current account is eligible to use NetBanking and the HDFC Bank App.

If you have only an HDFC Bank credit card or loan and no bank account, the login page has a separate tab, "Credit Cards/Loans Only", described as "For users without HDFC Bank Account". It says old portal credentials do not work there and a one-time registration is needed.

Documents you need

Nothing is uploaded. Keep these at hand:

WhatWhere to find it
Customer IDWelcome kit sent when the account was opened, cheque book, passbook, account statement, or the HDFC Bank App under Profile
Mobile number registered with the bankOTPs go to it
Email ID registered with the bankNeeded for the "Mobile Number & Email ID" method and for split OTPs
HDFC Bank debit card (expiry date, PIN, CVV)Needed for the "Mobile Number & Debit Card" method
HDFC Bank App on your phone, if you use itFor QR login and approval by app notification

The CVV is the three digit number printed on the back of the debit card. Enter card details only on the bank's own page that you opened by typing the address.

Steps

Find your Customer ID

  1. Look in your welcome kit or cheque book. HDFC's FAQ says the Customer ID is printed in both.
  2. The login page also lists the passbook, the account statement, and the HDFC Bank App under Profile. It adds that you can get your account statement through WhatsApp Banking.
  3. The login page has a "Get Customer ID" option. HDFC's FAQ describes it as: choose Date of Birth or PAN, enter it with your registered mobile number and the security code, then enter the OTP. On 13 October 2026 this option showed the message "Get Customer ID service is Temporarily Unavailable", so use the places in steps 1 and 2 if it is still down.

Register online

  1. Type now.hdfc.bank.in/retail-app/ in an up to date browser. HDFC lists Chrome 125, Edge 125, Safari 17.6 and Firefox 126 or later.
  2. Make sure your device's date and time are set automatically. The site refuses login when the device time is wrong.
  3. On the "Personal Banking" tab, choose "Register Now".
  4. On "Register for NetBanking", enter the Customer ID and the Security Code, and continue.
  5. Verify yourself. The verification screens were not opened for this guide. The dialogs on HDFC's login page are: a 6 digit OTP; separate 3 digit OTPs sent to your mobile number and your email address; and a Debit Card check asking you to select a card and enter the Expiry Date, PIN and CVV.
  6. Set a password. HDFC's FAQ says a NetBanking password should be 8 to 15 alphanumeric characters (letters and numbers). The login page notes that the password is case sensitive.
  7. Use "Back to Login" and sign in with your Customer ID and the password.

If the bank gave you a password in your welcome kit, HDFC's FAQ treats that as the password a new user enters at first login. Type it exactly, with the correct upper and lower case.

Set up third party transfers (TPT)

Registration lets you log in and see your accounts. To pay other people you need TPT registration, which HDFC describes as a one-time step. Self transfers between your own accounts do not need it.

  1. Log in and go to "Send Money", then "Register Now".
  2. Resident customers up to 70 years: authenticate with debit card details and SMS OTP, set the "Daily Transfer Limit", and submit.
  3. Senior citizens above 70 years: download the application form shown there and submit it at the nearest branch. HDFC says it takes up to 2 working days, and a default limit of Rs 2,00,000 applies unless you set one.
  4. After TPT registration, transfers to a payee are activated only after 24 hours, and for the next 24 hours you can transfer up to Rs 50,000 only.

You can set the overall limit from Rs 1,000 up to Rs 50,00,000. HDFC notes that for certain users the maximum may be restricted to Rs 10,00,000 a day.

Reset or set the password (IPIN)

HDFC's FAQ uses "IPIN" and "NetBanking password" for the same thing.

  1. On the login page choose "Set/Reset Password". The screen is headed "Reset Your Password".
  2. Enter your Customer ID and the Security Code, and continue.
  3. Enter your registered mobile number, continue, and enter the OTP.
  4. Choose one of the two methods HDFC lists:

    • "Mobile Number & Debit Card", then enter the debit card details asked for.
    • "Mobile Number & Email ID", then enter the details asked for.
  5. Set the new password.

To change a password you still remember, log in and use "Change Password" in the menu beside your profile picture. Enter the old password, then the new one, and confirm. You are logged out and must log in again.

Login without a password (optional)

The login page offers "Login without Password" by QR code:

  1. Open the HDFC Bank App.
  2. Tap "Scan QR".
  3. Scan the QR code on the NetBanking login page.

HDFC also offers "Upgraded Two-Step Verification" under its Kavach security feature. Login, forgot password and add beneficiary requests are approved from a notification in the HDFC Bank App, with OTP as a fallback. HDFC says it is optional at present, and once you opt in you cannot de-register.

How to check status

There is no tracker. Registration is complete when you can log in. If you cannot, the customer care numbers on the login page are 1800 1600 and 1800 2600 for domestic callers and +91 22 6160 6160 for international callers. The NetBanking page also gives support@hdfc.bank.in.

Common problems

  • Locked after wrong passwords. Five wrong passwords in a row lock access. HDFC's FAQ says to wait 24 hours and try again. Five wrong captchas lock it for 2 hours.
  • "Password Expired". The password expires after 180 days. Use the "Reset Password" button on the pop-up, set a new password and confirm.
  • "Your account is inactive!". NetBanking not used for more than 999 days is treated as dormant. Use "Set/Reset Password" as described above.
  • "Login Disabled". HDFC lists three causes: you asked for a block, a suspicious login attempt or transaction, or a legal notice or instruction from the police or a government authority. Call customer care.
  • "Time Mismatch Detected!". Set your device's date and time to automatic.
  • "Access Temporarily Restricted". The site shows this when it detects unusual activity. Log in again or call customer care.
  • "Another Login Detected". Close the other NetBanking session in the same browser.
  • No email ID registered. The email method and split OTPs will not work. Use the debit card method, or update your email with the bank.
  • Blocked NetBanking after reporting fraud. HDFC's FAQ says to visit the nearest branch to set it up again.
  • Two Customer IDs. Each has its own password. Try each combination you remember, or reset the password.
  • You want to block NetBanking yourself. Call customer care or give written instructions at a branch.

Safety

  • Open NetBanking by typing the address yourself, not from a link in a message. The bank's addresses now end in hdfc.bank.in.
  • Never read out your password, PIN, CVV or OTP to a caller, whoever they say they are.
  • NetBanking logs you out after 5 minutes of inactivity. Log out yourself when you finish.
  • For a transaction you did not make, HDFC's site has a link under Need Help for reporting unauthorised transactions.

FAQ

How can I find my HDFC Customer ID?

It is in your welcome kit and cheque book. The login page also lists the passbook, account statement and the HDFC Bank App under Profile. The online "Get Customer ID" option, which works with date of birth or PAN plus an OTP, was showing as temporarily unavailable on 13 October 2026.

What is IPIN in HDFC NetBanking?

IPIN is the NetBanking password. HDFC's FAQ uses the two terms together.

How do I reset my HDFC NetBanking password without visiting the branch?

Five wrong passwords in a row lock it for 24 hours. Five wrong captchas lock it for 2 hours. After that, try again or reset the password.

Why can I not transfer money after registering?
